Features
Two versions of Holonote are available; the full version and the light version.

The full version is a shareware, and you will need to register it if you decide to use it. The light version is a freeware, and no registration is required. However, several features are missing from the light version. Please see below.

  • Easy User Interface - LCARS-like user interface simplifies editing and managing tasks.
  • Storing Notes - The full version can store up to 400 notes. The light version can only store 20 notes.
  • Password Protection - Each individual note can be locked with password protection.
  • Sound/Animation Effects - Sound can be played in various events, and you can choose your own sound files. Animation makes the program easy and fun to use. Both effects can be disabled.
    You will not be able to customize the sound files in the light version.
  • Customizable Fonts - Fonts used for note listing, note content, and printing can all be customized separately.
  • Printing - Non password-protected notes can be printed to your printer.
  • Sorting - Notes can be sorted by the subject, the creation date, or the last modification date.
    This feature is not available in the light version.
  • Searching - Holonote can search all notes' subject lines based on a text string you provide.
  • Note Properties - Creation time and last modified time of each note can be viewed. (To view the properties, click on the NOTE CONTENT after selecting a note.)
  • Tray Icon - You have the option to minimize the program to the taskbar tray for easy access. Holonote can also be minimized when launched.
  • Date/Time Displaying - Holonote can display the estimate of the latest stardate currently used in the TV series in the US. Earth date can be displayed as well, including European date format.
  • Keyboard Shortcut - Keyboard shortcuts are implemented. Holonote can be totally accessed via only the keyboard.

Although Holonote is designed for Windows95, you should be able to run Holonote in Windows NT with no problem. However, it has not been fully tested under Windows NT environment.

This program is written in Visual Basic 4 for Win95. Therefore, you'll need the appropriate VB4 32bit Run-Time files. If you can run my Holodeck 3 screen saver on your machine, this means that you already have the Run-Time files, and you can just download the holonote.zip (full version) or holonote0.zip (light version) file, and you don't need to download the vbrun.zip file.
If you don't have the run-time files or if you're not sure, please download holonote_vb.zip / holonote0_vb.zip file which contains the program and VB4 32bit Run-Time DLL files.

Previous Beta Users: If you are currently using any previous beta of Holonote, you can simply download the program (holonote.zip or holonote0.zip) and replace the old holonote.exe by the new one after you decompress the zip file. This way, you can still keep your notes and most of your options.

Registering Information
The full version of Holonote program is a shareware. Please read the following to register the program properly. If you are using the light version of Holonote, you do not need to register it. The light version of Holonote is a freeware, but contains fewer features.

Single User License Cost: $15 per copy
To register the shareware version of Holonote, please pay with a check, money order, or cash (in US currency only) made payable to "Rob Chen" and send it to the mailing address below. Please include your name and e-mail address (please print clearly) if available. Currently credit card order is not available.

Once you are registered, you will receive your Registration Name and Number that is good for all 1.x version of Holonote via e-mail. You will also be informed by e-mail when a later upgrade version is available.


International Registration Info
Please do not send cheques in foreign (non-US) currency. However, cash in US dollar or other currencies are welcome. Not that I can use foreign cash, but I like to collect them. If you plan to send cash in non-US currency, I wouldn't mind how much or how little you send in. The mailing address is listed above in the Registration Info section. You should include your full name and an e-mail address (please print clearly).


* Previous Free Registration is no longer available. You can try the light version of Holonote, which is a freeware. You do not need to register the light version of Holonote. However, several features are missing from the light version, such as storing only 20 notes (full version - 400 notes), sorting notes, and assigning sound files.
